Ready to pay property tax in Spain? Check out Barcelona’s newest neighborhood!

Both the cost of housing and the amount of property tax in Spain were recently affordable to many of our compatriots. The economic difficulties that are currently observed in our country have made certain adjustments. Nevertheless, even today there are those who want to buy housing in the kingdom, especially considering that it is already starting to slowly rise in price.

Investments in purchasing an apartment in one of the largest and most beautiful Spanish cities – Barcelona – will undoubtedly be profitable in any case, no matter what economic vicissitudes await us in the future. Therefore, let’s consider what awaits those who choose the area of the Catalan capital called Diagonal Mar.

Diagonal Mar is considered one of the newest and most modern areas of Barcelona. There is practically not a single house here built in the last century. However, the appearance of Diagonal Mar is not Spanish at all, but rather typically European. Some will find this a disadvantage, but for others, on the contrary, it can become a great advantage. The area is several blocks of high-rise buildings, in the design of which the architects tried to provide for green park areas, as well as swimming pools and playgrounds. Not everything that was planned was realized, but overall the area turned out to be very picturesque and comfortable.

One of the undoubted advantages of Diagonal Mar is the presence of all the necessary infrastructure at the highest modern level. There are supermarkets, shops and restaurants. However, tourists who come here will undoubtedly note: there is no typical Spanish or Catalan flavor here. The area looks like any typical European city. So it is completely impossible to determine which country you are in, guided only by its appearance. However, most buyers who are guided not by sentimentality but by practicality when choosing Spanish real estate are quite satisfied with Diagonal Mar.

The price of housing and the amount of property taxes in Spain matter

Of course, this is not the area where you can count on low prices. The newness of the housing and the proximity to the sea play a role. Although it is worth noting that in Barcelona, the most prestigious areas are considered to be those located far from the sea – this is how it happened historically. If we return to Diagonal Mar, the prices here start from about 6,000 euros. And this is despite the fact that the average price of real estate in the country is about one and a half thousand. Note that 6 thousand is not the average, but rather the starting price. So the total amount that buyers have to pay for an apartment will be quite impressive, although housing here, as has already been said, is not considered the most prestigious in Barcelona. The level of taxes that the buyer and then the owner of the property will have to pay will also be appropriate.

True, it is possible that a buyer looking for an apartment here will be somewhat disappointed. No, not by the view from the window or the infrastructure. Most domestic buyers are disappointed by the layout, which is typical for Spanish buildings in general – and the new buildings on Diagonal Mar are no exception.

The thing is that even with a large apartment, the rooms in it will not just be small, but really tiny. These are Spanish building codes, which often surprise discerning buyers. Indeed, when looking at an apartment of about a hundred square meters, they expect to see light and space – but instead they see small nooks, which the Spaniards proudly call rooms. But each apartment necessarily has a spacious “salon”, in which, as expected, the family will spend their time together.

So, lovers of spacious rooms will most likely have to do some remodeling. This is a long and complicated process in Spain. But the only alternative is to look for an apartment in one of the few houses built according to non-standard designs, or apartments offered for sale by foreigners who have already remodeled their homes “for themselves”. So, good luck to buyers dreaming of spacious housing in Barcelona near the sea!
