Famous footballer Cristiano Ronaldo has managed to reach an agreement with the Spanish tax service regarding the taxes in Spain that he has not paid for three years. According to Spanish media, the footballer has agreed to pay a fine of 19 million euros.
Ronaldo, who recently moved from Real Madrid to Juvernus, will avoid a two-year prison sentence if he pleads guilty to four tax offences. The offences relate to the period between 2011 and 2014, when Spanish tax officials believe Ronaldo failed to pay €14.7 million to the state. The deal reduced the amount to €5.7 million, but interest over the years has pushed the total to €19 million.
In March, the footballer offered a sum of 4 million euros, but it was rejected by the tax office as “very insignificant”. As a result, the Spanish tax authorities began to prosecute Ronaldo. According to the Madrid prosecutor, the player’s failure to pay taxes was “voluntary” and “conscious”.
