The Spanish Consulate in Moscow has approved the trip. Is it safe to go to Barcelona?
Following the attack on an American tourist on the streets of Barcelona, the mayor of the capital has come under intense criticism from political opponents. Ada Colau is accused of not paying enough attention to security issues in the city, where millions of tourists go every year, including those who have completed their documents at the Spanish Consulate in Moscow. At a rally of opposition parties, words were heard that the current mayor is incompetent and unable to respond to the problems that are currently worsening life in the capital.
Colau, who is usually active on social media, did not respond to these accusations. Instead, Albert Arias, who is responsible for Barcelona’s tourism strategy, responded. He believes that the fight between the American tourist and the street vendors is not an event of such a huge scale that threatens the safety of the entire city, and it is even more stupid to blame Colau for it. Arias added a few strong expressions to this, which later led to him having to apologize and delete his Twitter account.
Perhaps the scandal was caused by the fact that the tourist’s beating was caught on video and received wide publicity. The American himself received injuries that required short-term hospitalization.
The Ciudadanos party spokesman called for Colau to step down because she had failed to carry out her duties. However, no party has come forward to formally express no confidence in the mayor and remove her from office nine months before municipal and regional elections.
