In Catalonia, it is planned to begin construction of a huge entertainment complex called “Barcelona World”. However, the project is still only at the planning stage due to economic difficulties in the region. The construction cost is estimated at about 6 billion euros.
One of the reasons why the Catalan authorities are striving to implement this project is the rivalry between Barcelona and Madrid. Madrid managed to get a contract for the construction of Eurovegas, a huge casino jointly with the American company Las Vegas Sands. Now Barcelona is trying to win back and announces the planned construction of a megacomplex, which will become one of the largest in Europe. If the project is implemented, a tourist visa to Spain will become even more in demand among tourists not only from Europe, but also from all over the world.
The construction of the complex is planned south of Barcelona, next to Port Aventura. It will consist of six huge parts, including a casino, a theater, shops and hotels, which can accommodate up to 20 thousand guests.
According to the creators, each of these six complexes will represent a specific country or region, including countries such as the United States, Russia, China, Brazil, India, as well as a separate complex dedicated to Europe.
If the project is implemented, Barcelona World will be able to attract up to 10 million tourists per year. This will be a significant contribution to the economy not only of Catalonia, but also of the whole of Spain.
Currently, plans for the construction of an entertainment complex are supported by the Catalan government, La Caixa Bank and private investors. The project will be implemented jointly with foreign investors.
The attractiveness of the country for investors has dropped significantly in the light of recent economic events. However, the interest of tourists remains consistently high. And on the part of Russians, it is constantly growing. The Schengen visa to Spain, the cost of which is relatively small, has become very popular. This is especially true, given the declining popularity of such classic tourist destinations for Russians as Egypt and Turkey.

According to the Catalan authorities, no documents have been signed yet on the start of work and all agreements are still preliminary. The search for sources of financing is underway.

It is assumed that the speed of construction of Barcelona World, once the decision is made to start work, will be exciting. This is due to the fact that the work will be carried out in an area where there are no strict restrictions in construction and layout.
As for the rivalry with Madrid, one of the representatives of the Catalan authorities, Luis Recoder, said: “Barcelona World”, in a sense, will be even “better than Eurovegas”. True or not, only time will tell. When both facilities are completed, all that remains is to get a Schengen visa to Spain, the cost of which will seem small compared to the pleasure that can be obtained from visiting new entertainment complexes – and hit the road!
