Your case is handled by a Spanish-qualified lawyer, a member of the Madrid Bar Association (ICAM), with over nine years of practice. The lawyer reviews eligibility and risks, checks the application file and handles requests for further information.
02
Protecting your position
An administrative appeal following a refusal is included in the Digital Nomad service fee. Court proceedings are agreed separately. Before filing, we check contracts, income evidence and family documents; after approval, we support the residence-card process.

Who the Digital Nomad route is for
The route is based on genuine remote work. We assess employment or client relationships, qualifications, income evidence and social-security arrangements before preparing an application.
01
Employees
Your employer must be based outside Spain. The employment relationship must have existed for at least three months before filing, and the company must have operated for at least one year. Written permission to work remotely from Spain is required.
02
Independent professionals
You need evidence of a professional relationship with foreign companies for at least three months and terms allowing remote work. Work for Spanish companies is limited to 20% of your total professional activity.
03
Qualifications
We check relevant qualifications or at least three years of professional experience. Your qualifications, CV, contracts and description of your role should support a consistent professional history.
04
Income and family
Financial requirements are linked to the applicable SMI and the number of family members. We review income, payment regularity and supporting evidence. A spouse, partner, children and dependent parents are assessed under the family-application rules.

Where to apply and how long it lasts
01
A consular visa
When applying from abroad, the visa is valid for up to one year, or for the shorter period of work. Before arranging an appointment, we check which consulate is responsible and its document requirements.
02
Residence from within Spain
Applicants legally present in Spain can apply to UGE for residence. The initial permit lasts up to three years, subject to the period of work, with two-year renewals if the conditions remain satisfied. Long-term residence after five years requires a separate assessment, including continuity of residence.

Your application file: what we check
Your checklist is tailored to your circumstances. Translation, apostille and legalisation requirements depend on the document and the country that issued it.
01
Identity and legal status
Passport, application form and fee, plus evidence of lawful presence when applying from Spain. We check validity dates and consistency of names and personal details across the file.
02
Work and qualifications
Contracts, remote-work authorisation, company evidence, CV and qualifications or evidence of experience. The relationship and the work performed must be clear from the documents.
03
Payment evidence
Payslips or invoices for the most recent three months, together with bank statements. We reconcile amounts, currencies, payers and dates, including explanations for discrepancies.
04
Insurance and family documents
We check the applicable social-security arrangement: employer registration, an accepted coverage certificate or RETA for self-employment. The file also covers healthcare, criminal-record certificates and declarations, and evidence of family relationships or dependency.

A closer look at your documents
Employees and independent professionals need different evidence. We check how the documents fit together, not simply whether each file is present.
01
Employee: employment contract
We compare your name, employer, dates, role and pay against your passport, employer letter and payslips. Changes in terms or spelling need documentary support.
02
Employee: employer letter
The letter should describe genuine remote work from Spain and match the contract and the company’s activity. We check the signatory’s authority and the wording of the permission.
03
Employee: payslips and bank statements
Each payslip is matched to a bank credit by period, currency, sender and date. Bonuses, partial months and irregular payments are reviewed separately.
04
Professional: client contracts
Parties, services, dates and fees are checked against invoices, completion records and client letters, including renewals, changes in details and the work actually performed.
05
Professional: invoices and receipts
We reconcile invoice numbers, periods, amounts, currencies and payers. Partial payments, fees, intermediaries and delays need a clear supporting trail.
06
Professional: description of activity
Your duties should match your contracts, CV and client evidence. We record discrepancies and the documents that resolve them; we do not backdate documents or replace facts with unsupported explanations.

How we manage your application
01
Assess the route
We assess work, qualifications, income, family circumstances and the place of application, then agree a tailored checklist and scope of support.
02
Prepare and review
We assemble the file, reconcile contracts and payments, arrange the required translations, prepare forms and review social-security arrangements.
03
File and respond
We submit through a representative to UGE or prepare the consular application, respond to requests for further evidence and follow the decision.
04
Decision and residence card
After approval, we support the TIE residence-card process. If refused, an administrative appeal is included in the Nomad fee; court proceedings are agreed separately.
Before you get started
Can I work for Spanish clients?
Independent professionals can work for Spanish companies within the 20% limit on total professional activity. Employees must work for a company outside Spain. Mixed arrangements are reviewed before filing.
Is an appeal included?
Yes. An administrative appeal is included in the Digital Nomad service fee. Court proceedings are agreed separately. The authority, not the agency, decides the application.
Is non-lucrative residence suitable for active remote work?
Non-lucrative residence is not a substitute for permission to work actively. For applicants who will be working, we first assess Digital Nomad or another suitable route.
When should I consider tax and time outside Spain?
Before choosing a route. Tax residence and immigration conditions are separate matters. We review insurance, tax, future renewals and continuity of residence for long-term status separately.
